Kalahandi Ambulance Breakdown
A tragic incident in Odisha’s Kalahandi district left an 11-year-old girl dead after the 108 ambulance broke down while transporting the critically ill child to the hospital.
The vehicle had left Narla Community Health Centre (CHC) for the district’s sole government hospital in Bhawanipatna when technical snag occurred on the way.
Girl’s father alleged that authorities have failed in their duty towards the patient by delaying her reaching the hospital resulting in the tragedy.
He blamed the ambulance in-charge and the administration for not providing the necessary help leading to his daughter’s death.
108 Ambulance Reportedly Stranded for Nearly Three Hours
“According to the family, while going from Narla to Bhawanipatna the ambulance faced a puncture. It was stuck on the roadside for almost three hours. Due to which the ambulance was not able to reach the hospital and the critically ill girl was forced to stay in the ambulance for hours.”
Girl Shifted to Another Ambulance After Long Delay

The poor family started crying seeing this and stated that if she would have been taken to hospital immediately, she might have been alive. A big drama occurred at the hospital as people said that the parents were not given proper treatment to the child. Father Blames Administration for Daughter’s Death
Dingar Nayak, the father of the dead girl, accused the administration of causing the incident. He said the girl complained of being unwell before going to the school. The girl’s father, Nayak, mentioned that they had decided to take the private vehicle. But, he added, they were informed that the ambulance would be a better option as it has an oxygen facility.
“My daughter complained of being ill before going to school. We took her to Narla and planned to take her to Bhawanipatna after her condition had improved slightly. He alleged that the tyre of the ambulance got punctured and it got stuck for almost three hours.
“The administration is solely responsible for the incident,” he alleged.
Medical Authorities Acknowledge Delay During Journey
Medical authorities reportedly acknowledged that there was a delay while the patient was being transported to Bhawanipatna. They also noted that the girl was declared dead after reaching the hospital. No Official Response From 108 Ambulance Authorities Yet

The Kalahandi ambulance tragedy, which triggered a crisis concerning emergency medical transport, breakdowns, and the backup protocol of ambulance vehicles, appears to have no resolution in sight.
The grieving family holds the authorities accountable for the little girl’s passing, as they believe her death could have been prevented if only the journey in the ambulance took a shorter time instead of almost three hours.
